Supposing this already is the time we’ve been waiting for…
During the last fifty years, the estimated hundreds of millions of us who don’t unquestioningly buy into mainstream versions of reality have discovered, invented and explored many systems of ideas and ideals, in search of radically new ways of experiencing who and what we are, of what this is all about.
Many of these paths seek what it means to create reality from the inside out, or reclaiming our indigenous knowing beyond doubt that the whole of life is sacred.
By comparison, western cultures have historically seen reality from outside in - defining what is through external values and norms that we are expected to align with and follow.
But though it may bombard us with information and virtual instructions, we also get many, many spontaneous moments, often hidden in plain sight, of other kinds of knowing.
When we glance up at the sky, suddenly transported into an incomprehensibly beautiful other world. Or get strangely potent and timely messages through an image or something overheard. All are interwoven in the fabric of our lives, arrive mysteriously, patiently wait for us to see them and to follow their clues.
Such moments bring sudden lightening of heart, surprise, delight, relief, gratitude. Here, we can breathe anew, feel that the world’s ok after all. All we’re asked to do is open and receive gifts we could not have planned for, and so start to be able to know ourselves Being. This is living from the inside out, discovering reality heuristically, through trial and error, through never ceasing to ask ourselves, for real, who and what we are, and what this is all about.
This living from the inside out defines the new times. It can’t be measured in the old ways, but we can dare to play when we get hit on the head with a snowball rather than stomp off, to check out the curiously meaningful words (to us) on the billboard we just drove past. Then, embracing the unknown and inexplicable, the Real that’s here all around us shows itself to us more and more.
Then the old ways bit by bit lose their hold on us, and we discover that yes, we are indeed in a new world, one that’s calling us home.
